More about The route of Pope John Paul II
Holy Father’s John Paul II Family Home in Wadowice is placed near Kraków in southern Poland. It is a family home and birthplace of Karol Wojtyła, who was elected Pope and took a name of John Paul II in 1978. Karol Wojtyła was born in his house on the 18th of May 1920 in one of two rooms which his family rented (with a kitchen) on the first floor. After his mother’s death in 1929, Karol and his father occupied only one smaller room with the kitchen. They lived there until 1938, till both of them moved to Kraków. Nowadays the place is a museum exhibiting private family stuff such as an oven, a shelf, a table, a laundry basket and family pictures. Inside the museum, you can also find a lot of personal belongings of Father Karol Wojtyła – skis, a backpack, a cap, a prayer book and much more. Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a historical place near John Paul II Family Home. He was baptised a Catholic there (The left aisle contains a baptismal font where the future Pope was baptised) and later served as an altar boy and prayed daily before its miraculous picture of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
